The ride itself was incredible will well maintained trails at the start. I passed along the PA side of the Delaware which began literally right out back of the motel I was staying at. As I rode along, it was a pleasure to say good morning to people as I rolled by on my fatty.
The ground began to soften up as it got warmer, making my fat bike a great weapon of choice to float over all the mud and squishy soggy sand. I got pretty dirty as my miles tracked on. I stopped at many cool locks along the canal path.
I crossed back over the Delaware at George Washington's crossing state park. I took some photo opportunities with my steel bike at the blacksmith and with some cannons. It was cool to cross the narrow bridge across the Delaware River.
I kept riding until I reached a town called lambertsville and had an awesome sandwich, while getting weird looks because of how muddy I was!
I continued north, where it got much sloggier and yucky. I stopped again at Bulls Island state park to look over the suspension bridge. I stopped inside their offices and the nice lady gave me a list of campgrounds local to the trail that provide summer camping.
I arrived in Frenchtown around 4pm and had some food with a few beers at a hotel bar while I awaited for my friends to come pick me up. Frenchtown is a small but nice town. The people were friendly and the beers were cheap. It was an overall great choice to travel north though I will certainly plan another trip to ride to Philly.
